Our Story

My name is Helen Golland. I am a qualified and experience Creative Media teacher, Mandala Art Maker and the founder of mandalaminds.com, which is a result of my travels around the world in search of the Self. We produce Mandala Art Making drawing templates to draw, colour, and run fun creative workshops.

In my search, I found there was no place to go and nothing to discover outside of myself, all roads lead back to me. After traveling for about two years and feeling lost I returned to my meditation practice and found a deep desire to do something creative arose in me, but it was more than a feeling, it was as if I didn’t have a choice!

I bought a pen and paper from a tiny shop in Thailand for a few pennies, downloaded an ebook and taught myself some basic drawing techniques. I found drawing brought me into the here and now and helped me to stop thinking about the past and future. I realised in the moment I was connected to my ‘Self’!

When I got home I told my father about how I felt and he reintroduced me to the Mandala. Mandala means circle in Sanskrit (Indian language). Buddhists have long used Mandalas to enhance meditation. They are made up of geometric patterns and colours, which reflect the universe.

He showed me the Mandala Art Maker he had been working on, and said, “I have been thinking about you, it’s for you” when I saw it I felt moved! I knew it was something special but I didn’t know why yet. Carl Jung believed that creating mandalas offered a “safe refuge of inner reconciliation and wholeness”, providing a sacred space into which we can invite the Self. He also noticed that creating mandalas had a calming, focusing effect on his patients' psychological states (ref, jungutah.com). Using my drawing tool I drew, and drew, and drew Mandalas obsessively for months.

I began to see Mandalas patterns everywhere and in everything! In flowers, plants, buildings and other man-made products. The universe had opened up to me (or me to it). This is the point at which the Mandala Minds was born, a combination of Mandala Art, creativity and mindfulness.

“When I use the Mandala Maker to draw I am in the moment, I don’t need to travel to find my Self, I am right here! It helps me to feel calm, connected and creative naturally. As I say “all roads lead back to me”, and drawing the sacred Mandala symbol with the Art Maker has helped me realise this.

I hope the Mandala Maker opens as many windows to the world for you as it has for me.
